The Tale of Pleasure Island

Once upon a time, there was a bustling area in Walt Disney World Resort called Pleasure Island. It’s easy to get a hint of the fun that one could have just from the name. This area was part of the Downtown Disney district and opened in 1989.

It offered admission to multiple clubs for one price, with the legend that it was based on the fictitious owner, Merriweather Adam Pleasure, who enjoyed throwing parties on the island. However, declining attendance and unwanted behavior from local teens eventually, the closure of all its clubs in 2008. The area was renamed The Landing in 2015 and now focuses on retail and restaurants.
