Eerie Abandoned Disney Attractions You Never Knew Existed
Skyway to Fantasyland
There’s a reason the route from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland was called Skyway to Fantasyland. That’s because of the beloved gondola lift attraction that connected both places at different Disneyland parks, including the Magic Kingdom. Despite opening in 1956 as the first aerial ropeway of its kind in the US, it suffered from metal fatigue and stress cracks, leading to its closure in 1994.
The Tomorrowland Skyway station disappeared soon after, while that in Fantasyland remained intact until 2016, when Disney demolished it to make way for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. In tribute to the Skyway, the Disney Skyliner provides a similar, larger-scale aerial transportation option in Walt Disney World.
