Eerie Abandoned Disney Attractions You Never Knew Existed
The East German Amusement Park in Spreepark
Abandoned and left to decay, Spreepark, an East German amusement park in Berlin, became a decrepit sight. The park was once a major tourist attraction in the German Democratic Republic, with a Ferris wheel installed in 1989 to celebrate its 40th anniversary. However, the attraction’s popularity dwindled, and in 2001 it announced its insolvency.
Since 2002, the place has been closed to visitors, with this abandoned swan-sculpted gondola depicting its ruin. But in 2014, the City of Berlin bought the park, hoping to restore it. And major work finally began in 2021 to transform the area into a cultural site with art galleries and spaces for artists’ residencies.
