Eerie Abandoned Disney Attractions You Never Knew Existed

Nara Dreamland: Japan’s Disneyland-Inspired Theme Park

Nara Dreamland was a Japanese theme park heavily inspired by Disneyland and was once a popular destination for families seeking a similar experience closer to home. Officially opened in 1961, the attraction had its versions of Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, and even a Matterhorn-type mountain ride.

However, with the opening of Tokyo Disneyland in 1983 and Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, Nara Dreamland began to decline in popularity. By 2004, the park had severely lost its quality and, two years later, closed permanently due to falling attendance. It was left abandoned until its demolition between 2016 and 2017.
