Eerie Abandoned Disney Attractions You Never Knew Existed
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Railroad
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground was home to The Fort Wilderness Railroad, a narrow gauge steam-powered contraption. It provided transportation for guests to the resort’s various campsites and River Country water park. The railroad officially opened in 1974 but closed permanently in 1980 due to issues with track maintenance, pedestrian safety, and noise concerns.
Today, some sections of the track remain in place along with the outer areas of the campground. After the railroad was closed, the locomotives and coaches were stored and forgotten for several years until they were rediscovered. Before transforming into Disney Springs, Downtown Disney utilized two coaches as ticket booths.
