Abandoned Disney Attractions You Never Knew Existed
Untimely Demise of the Admiral Joe Fowler Riverboat
Before its demise in 1980, the Admiral Joe Fowler riverboat was a beloved attraction in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Named after a former US Navy rear admiral who was instrumental in constructing Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the riverboat entered service a day after the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.
But the year of its demise came when it was accidentally dropped from a crane while undergoing routine maintenance. The fall destroyed its hull, and that’s how the damaged riverboat ended up scrapped. Later in 1997, Disney renamed the ferry between the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Magic Kingdom in honor of the Admiral.
