Abandoned Disney Attractions You Never Knew Existed
The Forgotten Discovery Island
Many visitors may have forgotten Disney’s Discovery Island, but it still exists in the middle of Bay Lake, Florida. The island was once home to a zoo featuring more than 150 species of exotic birds gathered from around the globe, which guests could observe while walking around the pirate-themed park.
Unfortunately, the attraction closed its doors to visitors on April 8, 1999, and Disney relocated all the wildlife to Animal Kingdom. Today, the place sits abandoned, with its structures gradually reclaimed by nature. Despite this, the island can still be seen by visitors to Disney World, making for a unique and intriguing sightseeing opportunity.
